The Sequester™ and Deficit Hysteria: Irrational Fear of Negative Numbers.

Posted by Trixie on Friday, February 22, 2013, In : Economics

There's a name for that: Neganumeriophobia. It exists:

The absolute value function was created in 325 AD by 'famous' Italian mathematician Antonio Numero. After a horrific accident during his childhood, Antonio developed Neganumeriophobia, a fear of negative numbers. Despite much risk to his own personal health, he dedicated his professional life to creating a valid mathematical formula which would remove negative numbers from existence.
I give you $1 for goods and/or services. This mean I ha...

Same-Sex Marriage Becomes Legal

Ok, on a serious note, remind me again how you measure a year? That answer is: 5 hundred 25 thousand 6 hundred minutes -- the same way everyone does...regardless of race, creed, or color. And now your sexual orientation. Need I remind you that "organizations" such as Westboro Baptist Church are more protected (per the U.S. Constitution) than the gay community? First Amendment rights and all. Fine, I get that. But, at the end of any given day, we all sit in the same lifeboat, and we need to ...

Armpit + Ears = My Photoshop Portrait Painting.

Posted by Trixie on Sunday, June 13, 2010, In : kvetch

I know that I've been known to dabble in digital art, machinma, animation, or photo manipulation from time-to-time, but believe it or not, I've never used Photoshop. The only image editors I have limited experience with is MS Paint and Sony Vegas.

I recently picked up a copy of Photoshop, and I've been wanting to dig into it since I know next to nothing about its capabilities. So, what a fun project for a Sunday afternoon, right? Not so much.

Some highlights:

Stick figures crossing Abbey Road
This is what happens when you come down with a nasty bug and lose internet connection for a few days. Actually, this has been a random work-in-progress for a while now, and I finally had a reason to put it all together.

I've dabbled some in novice machinima as a hobby, but I've never created animation on a frame-by-frame basis -- and this video will make that fact glaringly obvious. Not as easy as it would seem given it's a simple stick figure, but hopefully I've at least gotten better at ph...

MS Paint Art

Woman in MS Paint

I love to draw, sketch or paint - it relaxes me a great deal. Temporarily all my art supplies are in storage which isn't overly convenient. And on my laptop, the only thing I have installed that could even be remotely considered digital art software is MS Paint. I have dabbled in that app a few times just for fun, but thanks to search engines, I was amazed at what you could actually do with it.

It's not easy to do, but I was able to create the above from scratch based on the instruction from t...

Lady Gaga, John McEnroe, YouTube, Sibling Rivalry, and Jeans.

Posted by Trixie on Monday, January 11, 2010, In : Life
Sibling Rivalry My friend Amy posted a couple videos of her sons, Elliot and Ben, showcasing their dancing skills to Lady Gaga's Bad Romance on YouTube. Since then, Ben has been completely obsessed with how many hits it has and how quickly it will go "viral". Elliott? He just seems to be along for the ride on this one. And as of a couple of days ago, the hit-counter for both videos sat at an even 40 hits each. Therein lies the problem.

Unbeknownst to Amy, I asked my friend to post both videos on his personal...
